Safety Advice - Walking and Your Welfare
Before you stride bravely on any or all of the walks featured on
this website, make sure you are appropriately dressed and equipped
for the journey. If the terrain is at all challenging, wear walking
boots, not trainers: this will help avoid slips and stumbles. If
your walk is at a high level take a waterproof, an extra fleece or
sweater, high energy snacks and a flask with a hot drink.
Take a map and a compass and make sure you know how to use them.
Don't forget your mobile phone, battery fully charged, and before
you set off, tell someone where you are going and when you expect
to be back.
Remember that the weather can deteriorate very quickly,
particularly at higher altitudes, so check the forecast before you
leave. For fell top walking weather information call the Lake
District National Park weatherline on 0870 055 0575. For other high
altitude waether forecasts see the Mountain Weather Information
service website, http://www.mwis.org.uk/.
