Sailing
Sailing is one of the purest pastimes the Northwest has to offer.
With over 10,000 hectares of lakes and open water, including the
world-famous Lake District, the range of sailing opportunities is
vast. The proximity to the coast means the strong winds from the
Irish Sea provide ample opportunities for ‘windcatchers’ and the
Wirral has seven sailing clubs, containing over 3,000
members.
Further inland Greater Manchester is spoilt for choice, with open
waters such as Pennington Flash, Dovestones Reservoir, Gorton
Reservoir, Hollingworth Lake, Delph Reservoir and Belmont
Reservoir.
Winsford Flash and Butterworth Mere are great places to sail in
Cheshire, along with the River Weaver at Frodsham, home to the
Weaver Sailing Club.
