Blackpool Coast
The Blackpool coast has about 80 hectares of sand dunes
remaining today, considered ‘priority habitats’ under the EC
Habitats Directive and the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
The area contains three Sites of Special Scientific Interest and a
Local Nature Reserve at St Anne’s.
The Lytham St Annes Dunes SSSI is the largest intact sand dune
system in Lancashire and a very important site, rich in wildlife.
Extensive species of plants, birds, butterflies and moths,
amphibians and insects can be found here.
