Drigg Dunes & Gullery

Drigg Dunes
Drigg Dunes on Cumbria’s west coast, once famous for its gullery, is an important nature reserve and home to Europe’s largest colony of Black Headed Gulls.

The sandy Dunes are covered in waving Marram Grass and, despite these apparently ‘arid’ conditions, over 250 species of wildflower can be found on the reserve. They also provide a home to the endangered Natterjack Toad and a host of seabirds.

Nearby are Hallsenna Nature Reserve, which is extremely secluded and peaceful, and Eskmeals Dune Reserve, where Oystercatchers can be seen feeding on the sands.
