Gisburn

Forests in the Northwest
Gisburn is the largest forest in Lancashire, largely created by the Forestry Commission in 1948.

As it is a commercial forest parts of it have been felled but more recent re-planting has included the use of more native British trees such as alder, ash, beech and oak to improve the wildlife habitats and appeal to visitors.

Within the forest there are 3 easy waymarked walks to try, although there are numerous other tracks and paths, meaning creating your own, longer-distance routes is easy to do.

There is also a cycle trail, nearly 10 miles long, that can be attempted and this follows mainly existing forest roads so is accessible to most people
