Mountains, Hills & Views
Home to England’s highest point and several of its biggest
mountains, the Northwest is naturally home to some spectacular
sights.
Whether it’s the soaring peaks of the Lake District, the
county-straddling views of the Howgill Fells, or the rolling plains
of Cheshire from its sandstone ridges, the views of the region are
unrivalled.
Shining Tor and Shutingsloe (known as Cheshire’s Matterhorn)
provide two of Cheshire’s best views, whilst Winter Hill and Pendle
Hill in Lancashire (which is only 165 feet short of being classed
as a mountain!) are equally awe-inspiring.
Woodhouse and Helsby Hills in Frodsham provide stunning views over
the rich wildlife of the Mersey Estuary, with Helsby once described
as the best view in the country.
As the region sits on the beautiful west coast a number of our high
points are renowned for their amazing sunsets and views out to sea,
including Arnside Knott, Morecambe and Pendle Hill looking
west.
