Arnside Knott
Arnside Knott is a limestone hill on the edge of Arnside, a former
fishing village on the Lancashire/Cumbria border facing the estuary
of the River Kent just before it flows into Morecambe Bay.
This National Trust owned site, rising 159 metres above sea
level, offers fantastic views over Morecambe Bay, north up to the
southern and central Lakeland fells and south towards the
Lancashire coast.
It is home to a wide variety of birds, wildflowers and
butterflies and has extensive woodlands, providing an excellent
choice of walking routes.
Arnside is also recognised for being the starting point for most
of the famous Cross Bay Walks, led by the official Queen’s Guide to
the Sands, Cedric Robinson. Each year Cedric leads hundreds of
people across the treacherous sands of the bay to Kents Bank near
Grange, raising thousands of pounds for charity in the
process.
