Scafell Pike
Scafell Pike, at 978 metres, is the highest mountain in England.
Scafell Pike is considered one of the most
difficult of climbs in the Lake District, but is well worth the
effort with fantastic views of Scafell Crag and Great Gable from
its boulder-covered summit.
The ascent of the Pike is most often attempted
from Wasdale Head at the north end of Wastwater to the west of the
Pike.
On summer weekends great crowds of people can
be seen attempting this steep but straightforward walk. A more
taxing, but scenically far superior, approach can be attempted from
Seathwaite Farm at the end of Borrowdale.
A number of other ascents to Scafell Pike can
be made and numerous guidebooks are available containing full
details.
