White Nancy, Bollington
White Nancy is a 15-foot high stone landmark that stands proudly at
the top of Kerridge Hill, overlooking the village of Bollington. It
is visible from miles around.
It was built in around 1815 as a summerhouse for the Gaskell
family, who lived at the nearby Ingersley Hall, possibly to
commemorate the Battle of Waterloo.
In 1999 the owners of the farmland where Kerridge Hill is found
kindly donated Nancy and the land she stands on to the people and
town of Bollington, meaning it is now fully accessible for the
public to enjoy.
From Nancy fantastic views of the surrounding countryside can be
enjoyed and, when it is clear, visitors are also rewarded with
sights of the Manchester cityscape, Jodrell Bank, Winter Hill in
Lancashire and Snowdonia in Wales.
