Lowther Castle
Situated 4 miles south of Penrith, Lowther Castle and Estate is a
public park and home to the Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre.
Only the walls are left standing of the former
castle, but the grounds include a 50-acre garden, woodland and
riverside trails. There are also opportunities for fell walking and
a chance to take part in wildlife safari tours on specialist
all-terrain vehicles.
These tours, led by experienced and
knowledgeable guides, provide a great chance to encounter a wide
range of wildlife and well-placed hides and high seats allow
viewing opportunities not normally available to the public.
The Lowther Estate also provides opportunities
for most type of field sports and plays host to the world-famous
Horse Driving Trials and Country Fair in August every year.
