Macclesfield
The Macclesfield Forest, 3 miles to the east of Macclesfield, is a working area, with the timber constantly being felled and replanted. As such, the woodland scenery is always in a state of change, providing new and interesting views throughout the year.

There are many routes throughout the 400-hectare forest to walk along but, due the working nature of the landscape, you are required to follow the forestry waymarked trail numbers at all times.

Four reservoirs are contained within the vicinity, including Ridgegate and Trentabank that supply Macclesfield town with drinking water.

The wildlife interest in the forest includes a herd of Red Deer, many species of wildfowl on the reservoirs and the largest heronry in the Peak District, at Trentabank.
