Lever Park, Rivington
Known as Chorley’s mini Lake District, Rivington is a country park
set within the western edge of the West Pennine Moors, which is 90
square miles of magnificent moorland scenery.
Within the park is the large Rivington reservoir that is home to
a watersports centre and provides opportunities for sailing,
canoeing and rowing.
The park itself has facilities for fishing, a number of walking
routes and picnic areas, as well as an arboretum, pinetum,
refreshment area and toilets.
Other particularly interesting features include the remains of
Lord Leverhulme’s terraced gardens, two cruck barns, the ruined
replica of Liverpool Castle and Rivington Pike, which provides
amazing views from its 1,200 feet summit.
A park management plan has been adopted with the aim of
restoring the terraced gardens and improving and protecting the
landscape for the benefit of walkers, horse riders and
cyclists.
